AR – a Practical Furnishing Solution

Augmented Reality is already being used sensibly in the area of living and furnishing. For instance, IKEA started experimenting with AR technology back in 2013.The basic idea is that users project the pieces of furniture true to scale from your catalog into their living room and see whether the armchair or side table in the room also looks as desired.

Augmented Reality in E-Commerce

If you have an online shop, try to use the principle of augmented reality to optimize the customer experience. Mobile devices play a key role in this. Customers are surfing and shopping increasingly on smartphones and tablets anyway – when searching for information on the Internet, mobile devices have long since overtaken desktop computers.

The virtual try-on is changing

The “virtual try-on” is almost one of the classics among augmented reality online applications in e-commerce. Users can use cameras to check how selected products would look directly on their bodies. With small accessories or beauty products, virtual reality works very well. If you manufacture glasses, watches, or other accessories or operate a business in the beauty industry, this is one of the best solutions for you. When the client is browsing through your online eyewear shop, he would enjoy the option of “fitting in 3D”. The buyer only has to allow access to the webcam.

What is augmented reality?

Augmented reality or AR is a technology that presents us with virtual objects and information in our field of vision. It is an interactive experience of a real-world environment where the objects that reside in the real world are enhanced by computer-generated perceptual information, sometimes across multiple sensory modalities, including visual, auditory, haptic, somatosensory, and olfactory.

Steps in creating a high-end 3D model

Sketching

Every good design starts on paper, and AR is no exception. Before jumping into Reality Composer, create a couple of sketches where you capture the high level layout and design of your experience, and to storyboard the user interactions and annotate animations.

Scene Layouts

Once you have your sketches and storyboards, you need to transform them into basic 3D scenes and layouts. Create a new project in Reality Composer, and select the type of anchor you want to have the scene attached to (horizontal surface, vertical surface, image, face or scanned 3D object). Each scene in your Reality Composer project can be attached to a different anchor, but you should generally keep it consistent across all themes. You may use different anchor images for different scenes to show how the prototype works for various examples.

Adding Interactivity

In Reality Composer, adding interactivity to AR experiences is accomplished through behaviors. Each behavior consists of a trigger (when to execute the behavior) and a sequence of actions (what to do when the trigger is triggered). For our prototype, the triggers we used the most are on Scene Start and on Tap, and the action we use is Change Scene.

Animations

Animations are added the same way interactions are: by creating behaviors, triggers and action sequences in the Behaviors panel. Action sequences for animations are executed left to right, so each action will wait for the previous one to finish before it starts. If you want an action to execute before another, drag it and drop it before that one in the same sequence. And if you want two actions to execute simultaneously, drag one on top the other, creating a group of actions.

How does Augmented Reality influence your customer?

Augmented Reality combines the real world with digital components. This leads to a special fascination. Fascinating marketing solutions will attract attention and be remembered. But in addition to the attention that you get through the innovative character of augmented reality, it also opens up completely new ways of direct customer contact.
As a brand or company, you have the option of projecting information in real-time into the everyday life of your customers. This is a great opportunity to come into even more direct and personal contact with the target group in the future. And customers would love to have this intervention in their everyday life because they can only benefit from it.
